Goals and CUPS for Sprint Reviews

"If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else." When presenting at a Sprint Review, it is important we shed as much light as possible on the value of the features we've completed. In order to do so, I will present a framework to help in achieving this. Every story is completed by a solution to a problem in a given context that is driven by an end goal or an ideal state. So first off we start with a Goal To have a problem, in the first place, we need a goal or an end ideal state we want to reach. If the stories in your backlog are created with that in mind, then they should, by design, reflect the "Goal" (Possibly within an epic that itself reflects a superset goal). This one illustates some Languages evolving around BASIC and Fortran This one illustrates the languages used at a particular firm (including front end scripts, markup and DSL's)

My goal was to shed some light on the relationships between work, load, capacity, efficiency, productivity, improvement and long term health. While doing so, I showed how incorporating slack into the process, as counter intuitive as it might be at first, can be significantly positive. The slides are available at slides.com/mcmoe/slack/ Prerequisite Before we get started with that, I'd like to address a few definitions to clarify some of the questions brought up via post-talk feedback and mingling. Feel free to skip these if you are well versed in their definitions. Iteration A timebox during which development takes place. A key feature of Agile approaches is the underlying assumption that a project consists exclusively of a sequence of iterations. The purpose of working iteratively is to allow ...
